Where's Late Nite Creature Feature?

Hi folks,

The question posed as the title of this post is one that I'd like to answer.  Our hopes to have a premiere episode online over the Halloween weekend didn't quite come into fruition.  I apologize for anyone looking for that.  To better explain, all I can say is that our production ran into a little bit of a snag, and we've realized that perhaps the pre-production of the series needed a little more time to bake in the proverbial oven.

That being said, I have no intention of this show closing up shop.  We're retooling a little bit, becoming a little more comfortable with the aspects of the production, and looking to figure out cost effective and logical solutions to some of the problems we've had.  I for one have worked too long and too hard to let this just go bye bye.

While I can't definitively say exactly when you can expect episodes to show up online, I can say that the show is still on the way.  We're all hoping to get a first episode online soon.  What does "soon" mean?  Well, let's just say that it's our intention to hit the ground running when we post episodes.  While I can't wait for you to see what we're cooking up, I don't intend on just giving you little servings of Late Nite Creature Feature.  If that means that we don't premiere until the Spring, well, at least you'll know that you can count on a regular schedule of episodes.  We still have 18 episodes planned for this first "season" and that's exactly what we are working on bringing you.

To tie you over until we are able to premiere...  I want to share a picture.  Here is the cast in full getup and makeup!

Also, because I'm wanting to pull in as much interest as possible on top of just giving you an image to look at, here is the spectacular theme for the show by the band Harley Poe.  I think you'll definitely enjoy it and if you haven't heard them before, go to YouTube now and listen to more of their special brand of awesome.

I will be updating you as often as I can.  Until then, look for Late Nite Creature Feature soon and thanks for all your support up to this point!

Production Update 9/20/2011 - The Wheels Are Rolling!

Thanks for checking back with our little production!  I'm glad to announce that Late Nite Creature Feature will go into real-life production on Saturday, October 1st, 2011!  We've had some medical issues, timing issues, but we have everything lined up and ready to roll.

With the production starting a tad later than originally planned, this does mean that our premiere will happen over Halloween weekend this year.  So if you saw my previous post, we are still doing those episodes in order, they just start two weeks later than originally posted.  After a major reading with the full cast two weeks ago, I have to tell you that what we have will make you laugh and give you hours of enjoyment for (hopefully) years to come!  While this first season is short, we know you'll love what we have and stick with us for the long haul.

For now, you will find some photos of the crew in our Photos page.  You'll also find that I updated the Cast and Crew page!  Check back in the coming weeks as I continue to add photos.  The next batch will be from the set itself!

I want to thank all those who have followed us and checked out what we have planned.  I also want to thank Trick Greathouse at supremely awesome Asylum House here in Indianapolis for giving us a place to shoot.  I also want to give a shout out to the guys at the Horror Dungeon who are also part of our great horror hosting community.  While we might be on opposite ends of the spectrum Horror Dungeon goes with the more classic, macabre style that I grew up on.

Until next time!

Production Update 8/24/2011 PLUS Tentative Episode List

Howdy, folks!

As I've said in every other post, we are hard at work here in Late Nite Creature Feature home offices.  We've pretty much locked ourselves away and drank in the best b-movies Hollywood can offer us (and the ones we can use).  Scripts are about half done with the next couple weeks sure to bring in the rest.  With that being said, I wanted to give you a list of the three months worth of programming as it is tentatively scheduled to air.  Just keep in mind that while I will do everything in my power to keep this schedule on track, I can't foresee all circumstances that might cause a delay.  But keep posted because while the dates might slightly change, Late Nite Creature Feature will, without a doubt, be coming to an internet near you!

Best,
Geoff Arbuckle

Look for more episode postings in the next few weeks!

Production Update: 7/29/2011 - Some GREAT News!

Sorry it has been about a month since our last post, but that's because we have gone from trying to get things in line to rushing headlong into some serious pre-production.

That said, we will be filming by mid-September!  Location looks to be confirmed, scripts are flying, costumes mostly had, and we're busting our butts getting everything ready for production.  We have a temporary location set for about 8 weeks or so.  We'll be filming as many episodes as we can in that time.  During this time (we're calling it our "First" Season), we'll be releasing episodes on a bi-weekly schedule with the first episode premiering in mid-October.

As those episodes roll out over the following several months to round out 2011 and go into 2012, those we're working with on the location will be looking to get a permanent location that we will have access to.  When our first batch ends, we hope to roll episodes out on a weekly basis for as long as we can.  By that time, our productions should get even stronger.

Another piece of news that has us all very excited is it looks as though we will be on television in Aurora, IL!  So, if you live in the Chicagoland area, look forward to seeing us in October!  This should be a great stepping off point for us to try to get on other television stations.  If you live in an area that has independent television stations looking for late night programming, if you like what you see when the series begins, or when we release some behind the scenes stuff, let us know and we'll be happy to chat with you!

That brings up my final update...  By September, we look to release some behind the scenes photos, some interviews with the people involved, and some extras that you won't see in the episodes.  The actual behind the scenes stuff from specific episodes will happen as we go into production, but you will get to know most of us before episodes air.  So check back to see what we're up to!

Stay tuned,

Production Update - June 29, 2011

Good evening...  (Now just imagine that as if Bela Lugosi or Vincent Price said that.)

Just wanted to give you all an update as to what was going on with the pre-production of Late Nite Creature Feature.  We are working hard on costuming and writing, so to say we are out of Development Hell and neck deep in Development would be accurate.  We've been meeting often and the ideas we have, as influenced by the movies we've selected already to show, are truly hilarious.  Our writers cover just about the whole of the comedic spectrum and we're all on the same page as to what we're trying to accomplish to entertain our audience (which hopefully you will be one of them).

With that in mind, the key word we have to focus on is "pre-production".  This is one of the most feared words in any filmed project.  It's a process most of us never had to deal with before, so, therefore, didn't know what it would entail.  As I reported last time, we were still looking for a location.  This past weekend, I was given a possible solution that is truly amazing and would give us so many options that we hadn't thought about before.  The only thing is that we have to delay our filming for a couple months.  That's not detrimental at all because the reason for waiting will definitely be worth it if it all works out!

That means I need to update what the plan will be for episodes.  We will still shoot to premiere in mid October.  My eventual goal would be to debut new episodes on a weekly basis, but that's not a reality at the beginning of the run.  Right now, we're looking at a bi-weekly schedule for new episodes at the most.  As we continue production, that should roll into a weekly schedule down the line.  Still, if all goes the way it appears to be, we'll still get to air two episodes before Halloween which, of course, is prime monster movie time.  So, look for our first episode, The Killer Shrews, and the second, Werewolf of Washington, to premiere in October with more episode announcements to come!

Keep checking back for new  updates as they become available!

Production Update: 6/4/2011

After a brief vacation, I thought I'd update everyone on what's happening with Late Nite Creature Feature!

Right now, the crew is looking for a location to shoot.  We've been in contact with a particular theater in Shelbyville, IN.  Ultimately, it would be ideal to be able to film inside an actual theater since that's really the setting for our haunted, and haunting, hosts.  However, using a real theater comes with a few negatives along with all the positives.  While the theater is very excited about working with us, not to mention what kind of exposure we offer them, our production would be rather low on the pecking order.  My hopes of having access for a few hours every other week during weekends isn't all that likely.  They would need to have staff there with us, there are bills to pay, and so on.  Nothing too terrible, but it puts some things into perspective a little better.

So, our crew is assembled, our costumes are pretty well set, the characters are coming into clear view, and we know a lot about what we are wanting to do and accomplish, but there are still some challenges we still need to conquer, aside from doing this on as little money as possible.  Once that last piece falls into place, we're ready to set sail!

I can give you a bit of a heads up about what is coming down the pike.  We're looking to have a pilot online by the end of July.  I'd like it to be out there as early as possible, so we can build interest, and give everyone out there a taste of what to expect, but, of course it still comes down to having a location.  Come early to mid October, we will kick the series off in its regular schedule.  We're still weighing the possibility of whether this can be a weekly series out of the box, or if we need to go to a bi-weekly schedule for a bit until a catalog of episodes has been built.  So, we're definitely on our way!

What are we looking at for the movies that we're launching the series with?  Our pilot will be The Killer Shrews.  When the series starts in earnest, we'll premiere with the 1973 classic Werewolf of Washington.  What will come after the series premiere?  You'll know soon enough!

Lastly, I have to say we've got some great ideas for our skits woven into the movies.  We've got so many great people working on this.  Our production meeting this evening was full of so much laughter and camp and puns that the excitement for this to all get going is even larger than it ever had been.  I'll look to continue give updates as the production crew nears the premieres of the pilot and the first, "true" episode of the series.

Upcoming Plans and a Theme Song for the Show

Howdy folks...  We're getting some great ideas flowing on the series so far.  I'm meeting with a couple actors this weekend to bring them up to speed with where we are in the concept and the planning.  This will lead to a larger gathering of the entire crew to put everyone on the same page so we can get to writing our pilot and start cranking these episodes out.  Look for the pilot to premiere in early July.  We will then spend the rest of the summer raising funds and prepping for the regular series to premiere by October (just in time for Halloween!).  I, personally, will be using that time getting things such as a full website up and running, exclusive behind the scenes info and pictures up, and interviews with our cast and crew.

After all...  Why not get to know the people we hope you'll invite into your homes on a regular basis?

For now, I leave you with a taste of our first theme song.  While I can't promise this will be the final version used, I think you'll like as much as I did.

UPDATE (9/9/2011):  A more appropriate theme song announcement will be coming prior to release of our first episode.  Stay tuned to learn more about that!

And So It Begins

This is the first of what hopefully will be many blog posts for Late Nite Creature Feature. It's kinda hard to believe that the idea for this program is only a week old, but has moved so far so fast. So, let's outline some things...

First, the program itself... Late Nite Creature Feature is a show that pays homage to all the great monster movie hosts throughout history. While some regions and cities still have their hosts, like Svengoolie in Chicago, those of us living in Indianapolis haven't had a local person since 1989 (despite that very character planning a return soon), and we've had anything at all since TNT's Monster Vision went away.

But this show isn't going to be specific to Indianapolis or the immediate region. With the internet, we're able to spread out and reach as many people as we can. While the show will have the local flair of the Svengoolies or Sammy Terrys, just to name two, it should also have the broader scope of shows like Monster Vision or Mystery Science Theater 3000. More details are to come about the characters and the episodes we plan to get rolling with.

Second, were are we at currently? Well, the series is still in the very early stages of pre-production. We have basic ideas for the main characters. We have nearly 250 movies to mine. That's not even mentioning the countless other movies out there available for download or randomly shoehorned into box sets. We've got a skilled production staff and writers with great senses of humor and sharp wit for things like this.

So what should you look for in the days/weeks to come? As our conceptualizing continues, look for information about those who are making the series, the movies we're looking to do, a teaser trailer for the series, general updates about where we are in production, and, finally, news on a Kickstarter campaign for anyone who wishes to contribute to make this happen. So stay tuned, and we'll keep updating you on this labor of love and, hopefully, a source for entertainment for you each weekend on a computer near you!
